Golden Bear Chiropractic wins a City of San Leandro award

Dr. Corey was recognized by the City of San Leandro this June for his work supporting the local LGBTQIA+ (GRSM) community — the same judgment-free, community-competent care every patient gets at Golden Bear.

Meet Dr. Corey

A Rhode Island transplant who made San Leandro home in 2015, Dr. Corey started Golden Bear Chiropractic to help the Bay Area's boldest — and the everyday folks alongside them — live active, pain-free lives, without having to vet a provider first.

He works from the belief that safe, affordable healthcare is the most influential thing he can offer: patients of every shape, size, gender identity, ethnicity, and ability level are treated at flat, published rates. Every visit starts with the right questions — the ones that actually get to the bottom of what's driving your complaint — then a personalized game plan built around your actual life, aimed at real results: not just relief between visits, but getting you back to feeling like yourself again.

He's especially proud to offer the LGBTQIA+ community a setting free from judgment, and just as proud that the care itself is simply good chiropractic care — open and welcoming to everyone who walks through the door.

What patients notice

Ask people who've been coming to Golden Bear for a while what stands out, and the same things come up. Dr. Corey takes his time — patients often mention how thorough the exams are, and how he checks in throughout care to make sure it still feels right. More than a few say this was the first time a provider actually explained what was going on with their body. And a lot of them say the same thing about how they left: not just less sore, but like themselves again.

Life Outside the Office

Meet Meatball and Jelly

Patients ask about them almost as often as they ask about their own treatment plan — so here's the introduction.

Since moving to San Leandro in 2015, Dr. Corey has become something of a neighborhood fixture in Best Manor — affectionately dubbed the "Mayor of the Loop" for helping neighbors with yard work, small home projects, and his much-anticipated holiday baking. When he's not adjusting patients, you'll usually find him hiking and exploring somewhere in California with his two dogs by his side.

Meatball

Meatball

The blond, easygoing love-bug of the pair. Rescued from the SF SPCA, he's happiest curled up in his favorite spot — or wrapped up "babushka-style" in the softest blanket he can find.

Jelly

Jelly

The cow-colored chatterbox, also rescued from the SF SPCA. Endlessly enthusiastic about walks and fetch — his record for toys retrieved in one sitting stands at 16.

Together, they run neighborhood watch from the bay window — keeping a close eye on every cat and squirrel that dares pass by.

Why people choose Golden Bear

San Leandro has no shortage of chiropractic offices, and people of every shape, size, gender identity, ethnicity, and ability level deserve to feel welcome in one. Here's the honest difference between Golden Bear and the two most common alternatives nearby: the general small practice, and the high-volume walk-in clinic.

Hands-on care, three ways

Every plan starts with a comprehensive intake, then draws from the same core toolkit chiropractors have used for decades — applied without assumptions about your body or your life.

01

Chiropractic Adjustments

See all adjusting styles →

Spinal mobility assessment and adjustments for the neck, mid back, and low back, using the technique that fits your body and comfort level, from hands-on and drop-table to gentle instrument-based options.

02

Muscle & Soft-Tissue Work

Learn about soft-tissue work →

Hands-on muscle work is part of nearly every visit, not an add-on. Dr. Corey draws from a full toolkit of manual modalities and adds Rapid Release Technology and Theragun percussion therapy for stubborn, tight muscle groups — matching the tool to the tissue instead of running one routine on everybody.

  • Trigger point therapy
  • Myofascial release
  • Active Release Technique (ART)
  • Instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (Graston/IASTM)
  • Cupping therapy
  • Rapid Release Technology (percussive vibration therapy)
  • Theragun percussion therapy
  • Assisted/PNF stretching
03

Nutritional Counseling

It's rarely just one food. Sensitivities usually run along whole categories, not a single item, so Dr. Corey looks at your diet by food group, not just calories in and out. Patients photograph everything they eat and drink for two weeks to see where triggers for systemic inflammation might be hiding, and elimination diets play a bigger role here than restrictive plans like low-FODMAP.

What to expect at your first visit

We pride ourselves on a thorough examination — because understanding the whole you is how we help you feel your best.

1

We go over your history

About an hour to understand your complaint — how it started, what makes it better or worse, how it feels, and how long it's been with you. We ask what other providers may overlook.

2

A complete physical workup

Posture, range of motion, gait, muscle strength, reflexes, and neurologic symmetry — plus static and motion fixations. A full neurological and orthopedic exam.

3

We build your plan of care

Between your first and second visit, Dr. Corey reviews findings, builds a home exercise program, and offers lifestyle suggestions — then walks you through the best path forward.

Adjustments transition from osseous (hands & drop table) to gentler sclerotogenous work (Activator, blocking, light touch) over time — like sanding rough wood to a smooth finish.

What your care looks like over time

Whatever brought you in the door, every treatment plan at Golden Bear moves through the same three phases.

PHASE 01

Calming Things Down

We start by reducing pain and irritation so everyday movement feels manageable again.

PHASE 02

Building Capacity

Once things settle, we build the strength and mobility that help lower the chance of the problem flaring back up.

PHASE 03

Maintaining What You've Gained

From there, care shifts to protecting the progress you worked for, so it actually lasts.

Our goal: progress you can maintain

Dr. Corey's aim for every patient is to reduce symptoms, improve how you move, and get you back to the activities that matter to you, with a plan you understand.

Once you get there, some patients check in only when something flares up, and others choose periodic maintenance visits because they like how they feel with them. Either way, it's your call.

Pricing you can plan around

No insurance itemizing, no hidden fees, no surprise bills. Golden Bear Chiropractic stays out-of-network on purpose so every visit has one flat price.

Intake Visit

$150

Full history, exam, and personalized treatment plan — plus adjustment or muscle work if appropriate.

Regular Visit

$70

Posture and joint assessment plus the adjustment and treatment your body needs that day.

Extended Visit

$90

More time on the table for extra modalities — heat, cold, or deeper muscle work.

Re-Evaluation

$90

A checkpoint to reassess progress and adjust your treatment plan as things change.

Starting January 1, 2027

New rates take effect January 1, 2027: intake visit $200, regular visit $90, extended visit $125, and re-evaluation $125. It's our first adjustment since 2025, and it's what lets us keep giving you the same unhurried, hands-on care.

Lock in today's pricing: purchase a 10-visit package before December 31, 2026, and that package is honored at current rates even after the new pricing begins — our way of saying thank you for being part of Golden Bear. Read the full announcement →

10-visit package discount

Prepay for a 10-visit package (cash or check) and save 10%. Discount doesn't apply to intake or re-evaluation visits.

Why is Golden Bear out-of-network?

Staying out-of-network lets Dr. Corey keep appointments one-on-one, avoid insurance-driven treatment decisions, and publish straightforward prices, so you know what a visit costs before you arrive. If your plan has out-of-network chiropractic benefits, a detailed superbill is available on request.

Questions people ask before booking

Do I have to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community?+

No. Golden Bear Chiropractic was built to close a real gap in competent, judgment-free care for those communities, and allies and the general public are just as welcome. The care is the same excellent chiropractic care either way — what's different is you won't have to explain yourself first.

Do you take insurance?+

Golden Bear is out-of-network with all insurance, including Medicare, so pricing can stay flat and affordable instead of itemized. A detailed superbill with CPT and ICD-10 codes is available on request, generally within three weeks, for you to submit to your insurer directly.

What happens at my first visit?+

Your $150 intake covers a detailed history, a posture and joint-restriction exam, and a treatment plan built around your specific complaints — with an adjustment or muscle work the same day if it's called for.

How do I get there without a car?+

The office at 151 Callan Ave, Suite 201 is about a 10-minute walk from San Leandro BART. Free 2-hour parking is also available in the adjoining lot, a nearby garage, or on the street.

What should I bring and wear to my first visit?+

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and complete your intake forms online through Jane before you arrive. Bring a list of your medications and any prior imaging or reports related to your complaint. An insurance card and photo ID are only needed if you plan to submit a superbill to your insurer.

What is your cancellation policy?+

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Your first late cancellation or missed appointment is no charge, the second is $25, and the third and beyond is the full price of the visit. This policy exists to support your care plan, not to punish anyone, and fees can be waived at our discretion. Emergencies happen, and kindness always prevails here, so please stay in touch about your appointments.

What are your hours?+

Monday through Thursday, 8:30–11:30am and 1:30–7:00pm. Friday, 8:00am–2:00pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
